                  Wamego Reserve Police Department Program

                  Obtain the experience needed for your future career in
                  Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice

                       The City of Wamego Police Department is seeking mature, motivated individuals who would like the unique opportunity to participate in the Reserve Police Officer Program.

                       The City of Wamego Police Department Reserve Program offers exciting and challenging training and hands on professional experience.  It is extremely demanding and designed to be of the highest professional standards.  If you are a mature focused individual who is looking at a career in law enforcement and or criminal justice, the experience of being a Reserve Officer can help put your future one step closer to a reality.  This may be the opportunity you are looking for.

                  Reserve Officer Time Requirements

                  • Attend classes deemed necessary by the Chief of Police.
                  • Attend all Reserve Department meetings, usually held during an evening at a preset time once a month.
                  • Complete a minimum of 8 hours per month working community events or riding time with a full or part-time officer
                  • Attend and successfully complete the next available part-time Police Academy by the state of Kansas, which is usually held evenings from January through mid-March of each year

                  Advanced Employment Opportunities

                  • Since 1997 more than 80% of all Wamego Police Department part-time officers have been hired from the Reserve Department
                  • Since 1997 more than 85% of all Wamego Police Department full-time officers have been hired from the Reserve Department
                  • Many of the officers of the Wamego Police Department Reserve officers have gone on to work for the Pottawatomie Counts Sheriff's Department, Riley County Police Department, Junction City Police Department, and the U.S. Border Patrol.
