Reserve Officer Time Requirements
- Attend classes deemed necessary by the Chief of Police.
- Attend all Reserve Department meetings, usually held during an evening at a preset time once a month.
- Complete a minimum of 8 hours per month working community events or riding time with a full or part-time officer
- Attend and successfully complete the next available part-time Police Academy by the state of Kansas, which is usually held evenings from January through mid-March of each year
Advanced Employment Opportunities
- Since 1997 more than 80% of all Wamego Police Department part-time officers have been hired from the Reserve Department
- Since 1997 more than 85% of all Wamego Police Department full-time officers have been hired from the Reserve Department
- Many of the officers of the Wamego Police Department Reserve officers have gone on to work for the Pottawatomie Counts Sheriff's Department, Riley County Police Department, Junction City Police Department, and the U.S. Border Patrol.
